born in Russia, 1904, Ayn Rand witnessed many revolutions, including the Kerensky and Bolshevik. In 1917 her family moved to Crimea, where she finished high school. She graduated college in 1924, with a masters of philosophy, and two years later decided to move to the states to become a screenwriter. At RKO studios, she sold two screenplays, but decided to write novels instead. 1935 marked the year she started The Fountainhead which gained incredible acclaim, and changed my life. This was followed by Atlas Shrugged which is her 'greatest achievement. I have yet to read that, but i bought it for one dollar. She works primarily as a ficition writer, yet streams her own philosphy, Objectivism, through her characters. Then from 1962-1976, she produced her own essays and periodicals about objectivism. She died in March of 1982, having made her mark on society. back |
